Definition Cylinder Head Gasket

The engine cylinder head gasket, referred to as the cylinder gasket, is an elastic sealing element placed between the cylinder block and the cylinder head. Since it is impossible to be absolutely flat between the cylinder block and the cylinder head, a cylinder head gasket is required to prevent high-pressure gas, lubricating oil and cooling water from escaping from between them.

Two types of cylinder head gaskets:

1. The metal asbestos pad is based on asbestos and covered with copper or steel. Some use braided steel wire or perforated steel plate as the skeleton, and some add metal rings around the cylinder hole to improve the strength. The advantage is that the price is lower, but the strength is less. Due to the carcinogenic effect of asbestos on the human body, its use has been stopped in developed countries.
2. The metal pad is made of a single piece of smooth steel plate, and there are elastic embossments at the seal, which are sealed by the elasticity of the embossments and the action of heat-resistant sealant. It has been widely used abroad. The advantages are high strength and good sealing effect, but the cost is high.
